As people evacuated the burning British Airways plane in Las Vegas some passengers stopped to get their overhead luggage. Think about that for a second. Is it a level of stupidity this side of the Darwin Awards? Did these self-centered individuals not realize objects other than panicked flesh hitting the escape slide may damage it leaving passengers behind them trapped?
It seems people value possessions more than common sense.
But recent news is rife with other self-centered individuals. Before choking in the biggest game of his young baseball career, Matt Harvey made it clear to Mets fans that he values his earning potential far more than his teammates or helping the Mets win their division and potentially playoff games. I understand him wanting to take care of his health but when faced with simple questions about his intentions to pitch, Harvey chose to defend his agent and income potential over his teammates.
He seemed stunned by the negative reaction of Mets fans proving once again sheltered athletes are terrible at understanding reality. Hint to Harvey: Mets fans are more upset at your evasiveness than concern for your golden arm.
Keeping with out of touch athletes that are full of themselves, Tom Brady found loopholes within loopholes to get away with cheating. It seems he likes deflated footballs to maintain his inflated ego.
And then we have Hillary Clinton who is the poster child for out-of-touch individual with an unearned high opinion of oneself. Here is a person who blatantly breaks the rules, some laws, and a few lives while insisting she is within the rule of law. The only rules or laws in her fantasy world are the ones in her head or what her sycophant friends. Perhaps someone should send her an e-mail explaining she has become what she has learned to hate.
Donald Trump continues his assault of the egos on his republican opponents while conveniently overlooking his own enormous ego. I love the fact he speaks plainly and without the filter of political correctness but is he genuine or playing the part someone cast him into as the political machine keeps right on lying.
President Obama has taken a figurative paper shredder to the Constitution while pretending to defend it. Every politician is bought and paid for to defend the interests of the few versus defending the interests of the many. It seems to me the dream world all these losers live in has made them lose their grasp of reality.
Meanwhile, the men and women who defend our nation and lose their lives are the only ones facing and understanding reality while no doubt praying that reality is a dream world.
I can’t total agree with your point of you post. I would grab my laptop while existing the buring plane. Unfortunately people’s lives and livelihood are now electronic and stored on their laptop. Data can be restored, but I believe most people’s lives are in their laptop.
There is a fine line between ego/self centered and wanting to be the best. I think Matt Harvey wants to be the best, and a NYC icon. That means taking the mound every chance he gets. Trump has a huge ego and that drives him to create his empire. That empire create jobs and opportunities for other people.
I agree with the Invisible Hand theory and working for one’s own self-interest drives opportunities for others – so we are aligned on that point. Where I think I disagree with the ability to store data and information in the cloud or backed up somewhere, the device itself is immaterial because you can retrieve the data at a later date. That, or I’m just a wimp and would want to get the hell out of a burning enclosed space as fast as possible. 🙂 Thanks for the comment.
